NSKA Table Rock 2.0 Recap / AOY / Heavy Hitters

After a mid-summer break NSKA hit the water of Table Rock for the second time this season. Overnight and the morning just before the tournament was a massive storm that lit up the fishery with lightning and buckets of rain. After this hard front, the pressure jumped and bluebird skies made it a really tough day on the water for 38 anglers.

Tournament Results

On this post-front day in August the anglers were able to catch fish overall, but size was a challenge. The FPA of 5.0 was actually pretty solid, but you could tell by the totals this one wasn’t up to normal Table Rock standards. Jason Kincy finished 1st with 85.00″ followed by Jacob Webber with 78.75″ for 2nd place, and John Hall took 3rd place with 78.25″ on the day, beating out Will Atchison in a tiebreaker.

Top Ten finishers:

  1. Jason Kincy 85.00
  2. Jacob Webber 78.75
  3. John Hall 78.25
  4. Will Atchison 78.25

Angler Roundtable

The top three anglers Jason Kincy, Jacob Webber, and John Hall share how they did it on Table Rock.

What part of Table Rock did you fish?

Jason – I fished Holiday Island area, haven’t fished a tournament there in a while but that stretch of the lake seemed to be fishing really well.

Jacob – I launched out of Shell Knob. I actually wanted to fish an area I haven’t been to before, but when was driving down the road to the lake there was some weird looking guy changing in the middle of the road so I decided to turn around and launch somewhere that would have other people.

John – I fished the Owl Creek area.

What were some of your key baits that caught’em?

Jason – Most of my limit came from a Texas rigged creature bait or big worm. I did catch a few others on a jig, spinnerbait, and chatterbait.

Jacob – I caught most of my fish on a Choppo.

John – I caught most of my fish early on a Whopper Plopper. I had originally planned to fish main lake points and bluff ends, but after the rain the night before I felt like a group of fish might have went shallow, so I fished the very back of the creek first thing in the morning and it paid off.

What was the key fish catch for your day?

Jason – After not getting a bite for almost an hour throwing topwater and moving baits, I guessed the bass were sitting tight to cover after the big front came through so I put on a Texas rig and worked it slowly around visible cover. Caught a couple pretty quickly that convinced me this was the best way to spend most of the day. My 19.25″ and 17.00″ both came in very shallow water on the creature bait.

Jacob – My key fish was the first one. I was about halfway to my spot when it was lines in. I decided to stop and make a few casts on a stretch that I never fish. Ended up with the 17″ and a couple smaller ones. If we didn’t have the delay I probably wouldn’t have stopped there.

John – About five minutes after lines in I caught an 18″ on the Whopper Plopper in about 2ft of water. That sort of confirmed my theory and gave me confidence to run with that pattern for the rest of the morning.

Angler of the Year Race

With seven events done for the year, there are still a few anglers battling it out for the AOY title. We also have a three-way competition for Rookie of the Year among Jim Hall, James Fortune, and Jake Wilkie. Both races are going down to the wire!

Heavy Hitters Race

The Heavy Hitters champ will have the top five bass total for the season and it is as tight as can be going into the final event. Levi has a 1 inch lead, but the favorite to win is still Josh Landreth because he can drop a 15.25 bass and make a big jump. Right now I predict he does it to take the title.

Next up is Beaver Lake for the Crucible! Sign up now for this last regular season event.
